Three terror suspects arrested over ISIS connection released

Police in Mombasa have acquitted three out of seven terror suspects arrested on Saturday, February 18.

Confirming their release, Mombasa Urban Police OCPD Lucas Ogaro said that police investigations revealed that the three were not involved in terror activities.

“We have realized that the three of them have no terror connections, but we have released [them] pending further interrogation,” said police OCPD.

Ogaro, however, disclosed that the three; Rashid Mohammed Rashid, Faiz Hyder Mohammed, and Shariffa Faiz Hyder are relatives of the others retained in police custody.

Those still in police custody will be arraigned in court on Monday, February 20, to face terror charges.

Ogaro said that police are still investigating circumstances under which two of the four suspects were deported from foreign countries, where they had allegedly travelled to join ISIS terror organisation.

“They were rejected where they went. So we want to know how they had left the country, What made them come back and when there are here in Kenya, what are they doing,” added Ogaro.
