Three top cops fired by vetting committee

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has sacked three senior police officers who were vetted afresh after appealing against their earlier dismissal.

Francis Okonya, Stephen Arap Soi, and Jason Mbithi were dismissed by the commission after failing to convince the vetting committee on why they should be retained in the service.

The commission’s chair, Johnstone Kavuludi, however sid the vetting panel has reinstated five of the senior cops who had been sacked after the commission reversed its earlier decision.

On June 22nd 2015, the senior officers got a second chance to appear before the panel after they had been dismissed from the service after winning a court battle that nullified their initial vetting and ordered that the process be repeated.

In a statement, Kavuludi said 1,556 senior cops have so far been vetted since 2013.

The police vetting process has had many challenges, with officers accusing the vetting committee of failing to adhere to set regulations.
