Three travellers from Kenya among 17 new coronavirus cases in Rwanda

Rwanda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 17 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number in the country to 36.

The news cases include 9 travellers from Dubai, 3 travellers from Kenya, 2 from the United States, and one each from Qatar and India.

The remaining one is the contact of a previously confirmed Covid-19 case who was identified through tracing.

According to the ministry, all travelers entered isolation between March 17-20 in designated locations and were tested.

They are presently under treatment in stable condition, isolated from other patients, while the government tracks down all persons they may have come into contact with.

The Rwandan government urged citizens to strictly adhere by the previously instituted prevention measures including heightened vigilance.

Non-essential businesses in the country have since been closed, travel between cities and districts is suspended and non-essential movements outside the country are also prohibited.

“Any Rwandans or legal residents returning to the country will be subject to0 a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated locations,” said the country’s Ministry of Health in a statement.

“The cooperation of Rwandans and residents is greatly appreciated, as are the efforts of those working hard in the health sector who continue to be supported and appropriately protected as they work to protect the health and safety of all of us.”
