Three women in court over Mombasa police station attack

Three women of Somali origin were on Tuesday arraigned in court in connection to the attempted terror attack at Mombasa Central Police Station last Sunday.

According to the prosecution, the suspects are facing charges of harbouring three terror suspects who were killed as they attempted to free a terror suspect from the police station.

The three, Naima Mohammed, Saida Ali Haji and Shukri Ali Haji from Old Town area failed to take a plea following what prosecution described as communication complications.

However, Mombasa State Council, led by Eric Masila, urged the court to avail a Somali translator and a sign language interpreter before the matter can be heard, adding that one of the suspects is deaf.

On the other hand, Mombasa Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Mutunga directed that the three be detained until Wednesday when the matter will be mentioned.

Prosecutor Erick Masila said the three were harbouring a person linked to the terror attempt.

The three suspects were arrested at Old Town area in Mombasa Island where the three female suspected terrorists were allegedly living when they planned the attack.
