Three-year-old boy dies after gas explosion in Siaya

A three-year-old boy has been confirmed dead following a gas explosion that left their house reduced to ashes in Rarieda village in Siaya County.

According to eye witnesses, the boy and his parents were asleep when the gas cylinder exploded, causing the fire that burnt their grass-thatched house during the early Wednesday morning incident.

The boy’s parents, however, managed to escape with minor injuries and were rushed to Bondo sub-county hospital.

Confirming the incident, Rarieda OCPD Johanna Chebii stated that the two were later referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu County where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The police boss said they suspect the fire was caused by leakage from the gas cylinder that eventually exploded.

Mr. Chebii also disclosed that the grass-thatched house was completely razed down together with everything that was inside it.

The deceased’s body was moved to Madiany Hospital mortuary.
