Thug Shot Dead In Car Jacking Incident

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior police officer from Ruiru intimated that after the incident, flying squad officers lay an ambush at the Ruiru – Kiambu Bypass Bridge.

"The officers intercepted the lorry and ordered the suspects to surrender but they instead shot at the officers."

"The cops returned fire killing one of the thugs instantly. The other accomplice managed to escape with a gunshot wound," said the senior police officer.

Members of the public and those working in health care centres are asked to report any suspicious person nursing gunshot wounds.

ILLICIT BREW

Elsewhere, 16 suspects were on Wednesday nabbed and over 6,200 litres of illicit brews seized in the sprawling Gachororo Estate in Juja following a dawn raid by APs from Gachororo AP Camp led by Inspector Peter Mugambi.

According to Ruiru Sub County AP Commandant Hesbon Lusweti, the officers impounded 6,000 litres of Kang'ara brew which is distilled to make Chang'aa and 200 litres of pure Chang'aa.

During the raid, brew apparatus and most of the seized brew were destroyed.

Mr Lusweti said the apprehended suspects were to be arraigned in court.

STIFF PENALTIES

Juja MP Francis Waititu Munyua, while commending police for fighting illicit brews in Gachororo, said courts should deliver stiff custodial sentences to those involved in the lucrative and illegal trade.

He said once suspects were arrested, arraigned in court and fined they easily paid the fines and went back to the clandestine business as if nothing had happened.

"I have personally petitioned the courts in Thika to met out stiff custodial sentences to tame the vice," said Munyua.
