Tobiko orders probe on IEBC officials over bungled poll

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, on Saturday directed the anti-corruption commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate within 21 days senior IEBC officials over the nullified August 8 presidential election.

The opposition had on Friday, September 22, given the DPP a 72-hour ultimatum to commence investigations and prosecute electoral staff responsible for the nullified presidential poll, with Tobiko now saying that nine electoral commission officials should be “thoroughly, comprehensively and expeditiously” investigated over allegations of complicity and hacking of election servers.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders Musalia Mudavadi and James Orwngo will also be investigated after the Jubilee Party Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, accused them  of illegally accessing IEBC servers.

Mr. Tuju claimed the two are in possession of private and confidential information obtained from IEBC servers illegally.

Tobiko’s directive follows threats by NASA to initiate private prosecutions against several IEBC officials if the DPP fails to act.
