Top hospital named after former president Mwai Kibaki

Othaya Level 6 hospital will be renamed Mwai Kibaki Teaching and Referral Hospital in honour of former President Mwai Kibaki.

This was announced by Health Principal Secretary Peter Tum on Tuesday during a tour of the multi-billion health facility, which has taken seven years to be constructed.

The PS was accompanied by area Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

Mr. Tum said the hospital will be run by the national government, adding that it will offer services to deal with non-communicable diseases.

The Nyeri governor noted that the county is overwhelmed by the number of hospitals it is running, noting that the bulk of the county budget goes to health.

The hospital is expected to serve residents of neighbouring counties including Laikipia, Murang’a and Kirinyaga.
