Top KCPE student to miss form one chance

A 15-year-old girl who emerged third best in last year’s KCPE examinations in Siaya County may not join form one at Asumbi Girls’ High school due to lack of school fees.

Mary Anyango Okoth, who sat her KCPE examinations at Siaya Central Primary School, was admitted to Asumbi Girls’ High School after she scored 409 marks.

She may, however, not be able to utilize that chance, because her parents are not able to raise the required school fees of Ksh 53,000.

Her mother, Florence Aoko, a casual labourer, says they have tried to seek support from various organizations and banks that offer scholarships but in vain.

They told Radio Ramogi that they have also approached the area MP’s office and even the county MPs to seek support but they were told that the girl has to get admission at the school first before she can be considered for bursaries.

Anyango’s father, Bernard Okoth Ongeso, who is a boda boda rider in Siaya Town expressed fears that they may lose that chance, since the deadline for reporting to the school is Monday, January 16.

On her part, the student who aspires to be a neurosurgeon, has appealed to well-wishers to come to her aid and give financial support to enable her join form one.
