Tourism booming despite election jitters

Hoteliers in most parts of the country are impressed with the massive turnout of tourists coming into the country regardless of the tension experienced after the general election.

Despite the post-poll protests witnessed in parts of Nairobi and Nyanza, tourists continued streaming into the country likely encouraged by the unanimous verdict international election observers gave the electoral commission.

In some parts of Watamu for instance, hotels have begun receiving foreign tourists in large numbers after the assurance that the country is peaceful.

According to Pasqualle Tirito, the  Chairman Jacaranda Hotels in Watamu, their resort is currently witnessing over 70 percent bed occupancy and is still expecting more.

Majority of the foreign investors, domestic and foreign tourists feared that the country would be engulfed by post-election violence immediately after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) had announced the results.

Manufacturers and business owners are now calling on the political class to maintain the relative calm that has been witnessed in the country over the last two weeks to stabilize economic growth and restore investor confidence.
