Trade Unions to Push for Increase in Minimum Wage During Labour Day

The bodies argued that demand for an increase in minimum wage is necessity since the cost of living in the country is high.

COTU boss Francis Atwoli and TUC boss Wilson Sossion said the wage for lowest earners has remained the same for the last two years despite a pledge by suspended Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi that it would be adjusted by August 2014.

The leaders said the two unions would take a political stand if the Jubilee Government does not address their demands.

This year’s Labour Day celebration will also mark COTU’s 50th anniversary and is expected to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
