Traders lose millions in fire over alleged business rivalry

Two traders lost close to Sh8 million after a fire razed down their premises located along Kenyatta road off Thika Super Highway in Kiambu County.

Wang’ombe Mureithi, one of the traders, told Citizen Digital that the fire started at around 11 pm when they had both left for the day, adding that they still don’t know the cause of the fire.

The traders now allege business rivalry could be the cause of their misfortune, adding that last year thugs broke into their premises and stole electronic appliances and cash.

“This is not the first time our premises have made losses, last year and early this year thugs broke in and stole electronic appliances and cash,” said Wang’ombe.

According to officers from the Juja Police Station, preliminary investigations have ruled out an electrical fault as the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, police have arrested one of the watchmen on duty last night to help with investigations. His counterpart reportedly took off last night after being questioned over the incident.
