Traffic alert: Section of Thika Road to be closed this weekend
A heavy traffic snarl-up is expected this weekend on Thika Road at Allsopps area which will be closed to facilitate the installation of overpass concrete beams on the ongoing construction of the Outer Ring overpass.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) says the city bound expressway will be closed on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, 2019.
Motorists heading to the City Centre will be required to use the service lanes as directed by traffic marshals.
“Thika Superhighway at Allsopps (Outer Ring Road Junction) will be closed on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, 2019 in order to install beams on the ongoing construction of the Outer Ring overpass,” reads the statement issued by KURA Acting Director General Silas. M Kinoti.
A similar traffic disruption is also set to be experienced next weekend as the remaining section of the outbound expressway will be closed on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, September, 2019.
The closure will commence from 6am until 6pm on both weekends.
“It is advisable for motorists to use alternative routes to reduce congesting the service lanes,” said KURA.
