Traffic police sabotaging Smart Traffic System – Kidero

Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero, now blames the traffic police for failure of the Smart Traffic System, an initiative that was supposed to help manage traffic in the city.

In 2014, the County Government of Nairobi incorporated the Smart Traffic System on roads within the CBD, a system that is automatic and was supposed to control vehicles at real-time and 24/7, in a bid to deal with the disturbing traffic congestion that sees the city ranked among the top 5 most congested.

During an interview with Citizen TV’s Cheche show Wednesday, April 12 morning, Kidero alleged that the greatest undoing of the City Hall’s effort to end traffic was human interference therefore distancing his county government of failure to fully end the menace by virtue of the traffic police been under the watch of The National Government.

“Because the system meant that traffic police were not required on roads, they sabotaged it to fail so that they can go back to the roads to continue benefiting from bribes that they ask from rogue drivers,” lamented the Governor.

Kidero, who is seeking for his re-election as Nairobi’s governor in the coming August Polls using the campaigns dubbed “Tano Tena”, attacked the government and in particular President Uhuru Kenyatta for issuing an executive order reversing a bill that intended to reduce the number of vehicles in the city by introducing 51-seater buses and abandoning 14-seater.

However, he praised the cooperation between the National and County governments for working hard to ensure that the city is more safe and secure for its residents, in tandem with the County Government’s vision; The City of Choice to Invest, Work and Live in.

In 2013 the average crime rate was 2500 per month, but since we came into power, the number of crimes occurring in the city has reduced tremendously.

Among the projects the governor attributed to increased security were installing of CCTV cameras all over the county, lighting all the estates in cooperation with the Kenya Power, and passing a bill that instructs all new buildings to be installed with electronic surveillance system.

The governor believes that he has delivered to Nairobians and therefore warrants his re-election to finish on his unfinished projects.
