Tragedy as girl, 16, is swept away by river

A family in Gucha area in Nyamira County is mourning the death of a 16-year-old pupil at Nyamonyo SDA primary school who was swept away by River Gucha on her way home for lunch.

Confirming the incident, Boochi Chache Chief Robert Isoe said the late Ruth Motari slipped on the Gucha bridge and fell into the river while crossing the bridge.

It took several hours for the villagers to retrieve the body from the river.

The late pupil is said to have been epileptic and could have suffered the attack while crossing the river.

The body was taken to Ogembo Hospital mortuary.

Residents now want the county government to expand the bridge to avoid similar incidences.
