Tragedy strikes as 5 family members die in Nyandarua fire

Police have launched investigations after five family members died in Nyandarua County.

The five; a man, his wife and their three children aged between three months and 13 years, burnt beyond recognition in a fire that razed down their house in Geta-bushi area, Kipipiri Constituency while they were asleep.

The elder son, a Form Two student at a local secondary school, escaped the tragedy as he was sleeping in a separate house nearby.

Officers from Miharati police station arrived at the scene and took the charred remains of the victims to JM hospital Mortuary in Ol Kalou.

It was suspected that the fire was caused by a kerosene lamp that was found near the bodies of the man, and his wife.

David Mwangi, a neighbour to the deceased, the fire broke out at around 3am a few hours after the couple returned home.

The neighbour noted that he heard persistent cries from the children but when he woke up to check what was happening he found the house engulfed in a huge inferno.
