Trans Nzoia county workers locked out of offices for being late

Over 70 Trans Nzoia County workers were on Tuesday morning locked out of their offices after arriving to work late.

The move comes barely a month after Governor Patrick Khaemba’s pledge to get rid of all lazy workers in his office.

Arrival time for the workers at the county offices is 8.00 a.m. but most arrived about 15-30 minutes late.

Speaking to the press in his office, Deputy Governor Dr. Stanley Tarus Kenei intimated that they would not tolerate laziness at work and that those found slacking would face the axe. The late workers were served with letters of reprimand.

“Those whose offices were still unoccupied as at the time we locked the gate will receive disciplinary letters to explain why they were late to work. This is our last term, we want to leave a legacy,” said Dr. Kenei.

“Any staff who is not ready to work will be sacked and we’ll bring in young energetic people who are ready to work. We are not playing around, and those who cannot keep up with our speed are free to leave.”

The deputy governor further added that they would be making changes to the county health department to avoid the rising cases of theft of medical materials in the docket.

“There are going to be a lot of reshuffles in health as we want accountability and transparency in the docket. We do not want any more cases of missing medicine or the sick being told there are no lab services,” he added.
