Transformer vandal sustains serious burns

A man in Ongoche Village of South Kadem location in Nyatike sub- County is nursing serious burn injuries after he was electrocuted while allegedly trying to siphon oil from a transformer.

The victim, identified as Michael Okelo alias Jayalo, was reportedly vandalizing an electricity transformer when electricity cables fell on him, leaving him with serious burns.

Jayalo is suspected to have been in the company of two other suspects who managed to escape.

According to South Kadem Chief Mrs Jane Opiyo, the victim was found lying unconscious on the ground when police were alerted to move him from the scene.

“The man was found at around midnight by villagers around the area who reported the matter to the police. That’s when they acted and took him to a nearby clinic,” said Ms Opiyo.

She told Citizen Digital that the suspect could have been among a gang that has been vandalizing transformers around Migori Market Center in the past few weeks.

Earlier in March 2016, the same suspect is reported to have sustained injuries in a similar incident along the Kenya–Tanzania border.
