Transparency International official supports sacking of striking doctors

Transparency International has backed the move by the government to sack striking doctors saying innocent Kenyans across the country have been suffering.

Speaking in Eldoret, Transparency International officer, Isaya Mwongela, said that doctors receive good salaries compared to other civil servants in the country and their push for salary increment should be ignored by the government and those who are not ready to return to work should be sacked immediately.

“The demands by doctors even from where I sit are outrageous, I think doctors are conning Kenyan people. Doctors abandoned their work stations long time ago. They can go home,” said Mwongela.

The TI officer was speaking at a time the government and doctors have been at loggerheads over the implementation of a 2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that outlined several issues including a pay hike, recruitment of more medical officers and improvement of working conditions.
