Treasury blamed for stalled county projects

Samburu County has received less than 47 percent of the total amount budgeted for its county projects this financial year, this is according to County Governor Moses Lenolkulal.

The governor lamented that the delay in the disbursement of funds has led to the stalling of projects in the county, resulting in the slowing down of development in the area.

Samburu West Member of Parliament Lati Lelelit echoed the governor’s sentiments, and called on the National Treasury to speed up the process of disbursing funds to counties to enable them complete their projects for the 2015/2016 financial year.

He added that it was unconstitutional to end a financial year before disbursing all the money that was set aside for counties.

“The financial year will be over in three months yet most counties have received less than 50 percent of the money they were supposed to receive in this financial year,” he said.

He further complained that most counties are lagging behind in their projects due to lack of sufficient funds.
