Treasury to blame for delayed IEBC send off package- SRC

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has now come out to declare that they are not responsible for the delayed agreement on a send off package for the Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners, instead shifting the blame to the National Treasury.

SRC Vice Chair Daniel Ogutu says the Commission will implement the IEBC Commissioners send-off package once Treasury reaches a deal with the IEBC Commissioners.

Ogutu, however, said the Commission will contact National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Monday to push for a deal on the exit package for the IEBC Commissioners.

The golden handshake required to send home the nine IEBC commissioners will cost the taxpayer Ksh.164 million.

This comes just hours after the National Assembly Speaker released a statement blaming Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and the SRC for delayed hiring of new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, saying talks on send off perks for current commissioners yet to start.

In the statement, Muturi said the Treasury was yet to come up with a send-off package for the outgoing commissioners, even after the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on IEBC recommended same.
