Trump has promised to make travel ban accommodations for 2024 Olympics LA 2024 CEO

U.S. President Donald Trump wants Los Angeles to host the 2024 Olympic games and will “make accommodations” to his immigration policies and ensure “free access to people” to compete in the games, said Gene Sykes, CEO of LA 2024, on Thursday (Mar. 9)

“He (Trump) wants the Olympic games badly enough that if anything the administration does gets in the way of free access for people at international sporting events in the United States, I would daresay that includes FIFA, they will make accommodations,” Sykes told Reuters in Santa Monica, California on the sidelines of the business and technology summit.

Earlier int the day in London, FIFA president Gianni Infantino told reporters Trump’s travel ban barring entry from 6 Muslim-majority countries could prevent the United States from hosting the 2026 World Cup.

Los Angeles, seeking to host the summer Games for a third time, is competing against Paris for the 2024 summer games.

Sykes said politics is as unpredictable in the United States as it is in France, adding that “in a one on one competition politics nets out.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to make its selection in September 2017. Los Angeles, the nation’s second-most populous city with nearly 4 million people, hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984.
