Trump says he turned down Times Person of the Year

U.S President Donald Trump has revealed that TIME Magazine offered to make him their ‘TIME Person of the Year’ for 2017 but he rejected the offer.

In a tweet, Trump says he declined the offer because TIME used the word ‘probably’, and could not confirm he would be chosen.

“I said probably is no good and took a pass,” he tweeted.

He also cited being asked for an interview and a photo-shoot as part of the reasons why he declined the offer.

“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!” read the tweet.

In a response via their official Twitter handle, TIME magazine said, “The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.”

Former TIME Magazine Editor, Richard Stengel, also jumped in on the back and forth, brushing off Donald Trump’s claim. In a tweet, Stengel told the U.S President that the word ‘probably’ as used by TIME Magazine meant he was really not their choice for ‘Person of the Year.’

“Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you’re NOT Person of the Year. They just wanted a photo shoot. But I’m sure you still have that fake TIME cover somewhere in storage.”

Donald Trump was, last year, named TIME’s ‘Person of the Year’ after he was elected office.
