TSC Asks KNUT To Withdraw Strike Notice

TSC in a statement says that the strike notice was premature as negotiations for teachers' pay are still ongoing.

The TSC Chief Executive Gabriel Lengoiboni has consequently said it will table an offer for teachers on the 3rd January 2015 and therefore teachers' union KNUT should consider and accept.

Lengoiboni therefore urged KNUT to come to the table and consider the offer on that day to avert the strike.

TSC in the statement said it had been taken by surprise by the strike notice as talks were still going on.

Lengoiboni said the strike notice was 'uncalled for, pre-emptive, unjustified and unnecessary"

According to Lengoiboni, the negotiations they had were under the Consultative Committee on Terms and Conditions of Service for Teachers.

He further said that the parties have so far covered a lot of ground and made significant progress in addressing the issues raised by the teachers’ Unions.

He also observed that talks between them were not abandoned but postponed to give TSC more time to consult within government agencies on some of the demands.

The Commission further appealed to parents and guardians to prepare and send their children to schools as per the Ministry of Education guidelines

It also urged teachers to report to work next week for their routine teaching and administrative duties.
