TSC defends move to sack Sossion

The Teachers Service Commission has defended its move to sack nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion as a public school teacher.

According to TSC, Sossion’s assumption of office as a Member of Parliament grossly breached the provisions of the code of Regulations for Teachers, Public Officer Ethics Act, Elections Act and Code of Conduct and Ethics for Teachers and in effect violated the terms and conditions if his contract of service.

In its response to a case filed by Sossion, the commission argued that the provisions of the code of Regulations for Teachers clearly require any teacher intending to participate in political activities to resign or retire in line with Elections Act.

“The petitioner was holding two public offices and earning double benefits in terms of pensions and gratuities contrary to the law,” read court papers.

Further TSC said that Sossion was subjected to fair administrative process and was accorded full benefit of the rules of justice.

TSC has asked the court to dismiss the case filed by Sossion saying that he has not demonstrated any injury, loss or injustice he will suffer if the orders he is seeking are not granted.
