TSC Reinstates Starehe Boys Principal

In a statement sent to newsrooms, TSC said the school's management board "cannot take unilateral decisions without the involvement of such key stakeholders as the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology”.

The commission said that it has provided the school with 53 teachers who are paid by the Government through taxpayers’ money and in addition, the Government disburses subsidies to Starehe Boys Centre like is the case with all other public schools.

TSC says there are clearly stipulated mechanisms to deal with any grievance or allegation without inviting anarchy to the management of institutions.

TSC further said that any action on an employee of the commission can only be taken within the framework of Article 237 (2) of the Constitution, the Teachers Service Commission Act, 2012, the Code of Regulation for Teachers and the Basic Education Act, 2013.

“The Commission has no provision in its policies and administrative instruments for sending a teacher on compulsory leave,” the statement said.

In conclusion, the statement made it clear that “it is only the Commission that can deploy another teacher to perform the duties of a principal and that the appointment made was misguided and consequently, a nullity.”
