TSC to recruit 5,000 teachers this year, promote 2,000 others July
The Teachers Services Commission has announced it will recruit an additional 5,000 teachers this year to address current shortage of 87,487 in both primary and secondary public schools across the country.
TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia says the new teachers will be posted to various public primary and secondary schools to boost education that is grappling with massive teacher shortfall.
Macharia has urged school principals to provide quality leadership to address the emerging problem of many principals reportedly dying from work-related stress.
She was speaking during teachers’ conference in Mombasa, where TSC chair Lydia Nzomo added that more than 2,000 teachers interviewed for principal position vacancies will be promoted next month.
TSC has, however, insisted teachers, like all other public officers, will continue declaring their income, assets and liabilities every two years and upon exiting the teaching service.
