Turkana flood victims receive food donations
The office of Turkana Women Representative has donated food and non-foodstuff to over 1,000 flood victims living with disabilities in Turkana County.
The victims, who were mostly elderly and vulnerable, are among the people who lost property during the one month cycle of rain that pounded the area claiming 7 lives and hundreds of livestock.
Speaking shortly after the donation, Turkana Women Representative, Joyce Emankor, said that the foodstuffs and the non-food items were bought by an allocation from the Affirmative Action Social Development Fund by the National Government.
“The fund is just little money, but at least it will assist the most vulnerable especially the people living with disability and special cases,” she noted.
In severe cases during the heavy downpour such as Soweto village, over 25 families were left homeless after River Kawalasee burst its banks sweeping viciously through the village.
