Turkana MPs Lomenen, Lodepe, Lokiru ‘under siege’ after bandits attack them in Kapedo

Three Turkana Members of Parliament, James Lomenen (Turkana South), John Lodepe (Turkana Central) and Lokiru Ali Mohammed (Turkana East) say their lives are in danger after they were surrounded by bandits in Kapedo.

According to Mr. Lokiru, trouble started when the bandits shot and killed a General Service Unit operation commander Emadau Tebakol.

The Turkana East legislator says the trio had gone to mourn with families that were affected after bandits attacked their homes in Tiaty killed people, cattle and torched houses.

They also met with local administration leaders on how to improve security and get children to go to school.

Moments later commander Temakol, who had attended the meeting was attacked and killed by the bandits at the Ameyan bridge.

“We have spent the last 12 hours under the tables and beds as the bandits have been shooting and we are fearing for our lives,” says MP Lokiru. “The bandits know we are here and we cannot go anywhere.”

Asked on whether the government has promised to send in help, MP Lokiru says there has been nothing but silence.

“We have not heard anything from the government. We want to know if the national government has decided to let the bandits rule this part of Kenya,” said MP Lokiru.
