Turkana, Pokot, Karamajong Women Want Massive Disarmament

Top on the agenda was the urgent need to find a lasting peaceful solution to the frequent cattle rustling menace and senseless killings witnessed in the region.

The women lashed out at the government of Kenya and local leaders over the escalating cases of insecurity and called for disarmament of all the communities in the pastoral regions.

The Kenyan women were also here to borrow a leaf from their Ugandan counterparts on how they worked with men in their community to end cattle rustling and restore peace.

Bulls were slaughtered and those who attended feasted on the meat together as a symbol of their new found unity.

The women’s conference was sponsored by the Danish Demining Group that helps end cross border conflicts.

Meanwhile, Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita has said that the only way to eradicate insecurity in the region was through investing in development projects in the insecurity prone areas.
