Network failure troubles Turkana residents filing tax returns

Hundreds Turkana County residents risk being fined by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for failing to beat the  deadline to file their tax returns using the online platform, itax, by Thursday, June 30th, 2016 over network complications.

The residents flocked Huduma Center in Lodwar on Thursday after the center went without network for three days.

Some travelled from as far as 400km to get the service which has become a mirage causing frustrations and panic.

The residents have urged the government to extend the deadline for five more days to give them room to file their returns and avoid heavy penalties.

The network challenges have been attributed to the last minute rush that has seen many people logging in on to the itax system leading to congestion on the network.

Wilfred Daudi, in charge of Turkana Huduma Centre, admitted that many people showed up at the center on the last day leading to jamming of the network.
