Twelve Prisoners Escape as Lorry Plunges to a Stream

According to Siaya OCPD Stephen Cheteka, the lorry which had 49 inmates on board, was ferrying the prisoners from Siaya to Ukwala Law Court when its brakes failed.

He stated that the "lorry then lost control and swayed off the road before plunging into the nearby stream. Twelve prisoners took advantage of the confusion and escaped into the bush while others sustained injuries".

Mr. Cheteka said that the eight suspects who sustained injuries were rushed to Siaya County Referral hospital and the remaining 29 taken to various police station cells including Ugunja and Ukwala.

The OCPD said that the search for the 12 who escaped has since commenced.

He has called upon the villagers who may have any information of the whereabouts of the twelve to assist the police with information that can lead to their re-arrest.
