Two arrested for allegedly repacking, selling expired foodstuff

A foreigner and a Kenyan citizen were on Monday arraigned in court after they were arrested by Public Health Officials for allegedly repacking and selling expired foodstuff in Eldoret town.

Kachela Rajesh Randula and Patel Rajnikant Dahyabhai, jointly being Directors of Eldoret Packers Limited, were accused of selling different brands of expired foodstuff contrary to Section 131 of the Public Health Act.

The two appeared before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa and were released on a cash bail of Ksh.100, 000 each after pleading not guilty.

The case will be heard on November 15, 2018.

Residents of Eldoret had raised concern over increasing cases of traders selling expired goods in the town and its environs.

Three weeks ago, police officers in the area impounded a lorry ferrying fish allegedly imported from China.
