Two bodies from Lake Nakuru helicopter crash retrieved

Two bodies of the five occupants of the ill-fated chopper that crashed into Lake Nakuru on Saturday have been found more than 72 hours after the incident.

Two of the bodies, which were found intact, were positively identified as those of pilot Apollo Malowa and Anthony Kipyegon.

The bodies were ferried to Umash Mortuary in a military ambulance on Monday afternoon.

Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha confirmed the new development saying the search was still ongoing for the three other missing bodies.

On Sunday, parts of the chopper were found a few kilometres from the shores of the lake as search operations intensified.

Those who were in the helicopter, owned and operated by Flex Air Charters have since been identified as Captain Apollo Malowa, Sam Gitau, Mapozi John, Anthony Kipyego and a woman referred to only as Veronica.

The incident has once again brought into question the level of the country’s preparedness to both natural and man-made disasters.
