Two boys on boda boda swept away as Kisii floods wreak havoc

The body of an 11-year-old pupil was recovered on Friday after Kisii floods wreaked havoc.

North Kanyajuok Assistant Chief Joseph Nyamanga identified the boy as Boaz Ogetara.

He told Citizen Digital that divers also retrieved the body of a boda boda rider: 37-year-old David Okeri, in Toku village, Rongo sub county.

The third person, 11-year-old Ibrahim Ochoi, is yet to be found.

They were among three people who were crossing River Kuja when they were swept away.

According to the assistant chief, the two pupils were being taken home from school when the incident occurred.

They were on the motorbike and were crossing a bridge which had been submerged by water following the heavy downpour in the region.

An unidentified woman who had apparently boarded the same motorcycle is said to have warned the rider against crossing the river but he ignored her.

She then opted to alight and remain behind.
