Two brothers linked to  Siaya journalist’s murder to undergo mental test

The two brothers who were arrested in connection with the murder of The Star Newspaper journalist Erick Oloo have been detained for eight more days pending mental examination.

Siaya High Court judge Roseline Aburili directed that Victor Ogola Luta and Franklin Joel Luta be detained in police custody until December 18, 2019 when they will be brought back to court.

This prosecutor David Okach informed the court that the suspects, who are yet to take plea to murder charges, were supposed to be taken for mental examination.

Justice Aburili ordered that the suspects be processed for the mental exanimation on December 17 at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

She further directed that the two suspects be provided with a lawyer once the case begins, after they informed the court that they could not afford to hire a lawyer on their own.

Five people including Ugunja deputy OCS Sabina Kerubo, in whose house the journalist was found dead of November 21, 2019 have since been arrested.

On December 2, 2019 Kerubo was also brought before Siaya Principal Magistrate James Ong’odo who ordered that she equally be detained at the Siaya Police station pending completion of investigations into the matter.

The court ordered that she be detained for 14 days and she is expected to be brought back on December 16, 2019.
