Two brothers operating separate M-Pesa shops abducted in Bomet

Police in Bomet County have launched a manhunt following an incident where two brothers operating separate M-Pesa shops in Ngariet trading center, Sotik sub-county, were abducted and bundled into a private car by unknown assailants.

Bomet Police Commandant Naomi Ichami said the shops operated by the two – aged 22 and 18 years – are adjacent to each other.

According to Ms. Ichami, the brothers were handcuffed by a gang of five who then sped off towards the Sotik – Bomet route.

“We are told they were pretending to be looking for M-Pesa services and asked if they could deposit Ksh.40,000 in the said shops,” said the police boss.

“They then forced themselves into the shops and frogmarched the two into their car.”

The police boss appealed to members of the public to help trace the assailants’ car, a gray Toyota Fielder registration KCF 620P.

Following the incident, residents of Ngariet barricaded the road in protest.
