Two children crushed to death by tree

Two children were killed and four others seriously injured after a mango tree fell on a house they were sleeping in Saturday night at Mishomoroni area, Mombasa County.

The two, aged 2 and 15 years, are from the same family. Four other members of the same family are undergoing treatment at a nearby health facility.

According to Gabriel Juma, a relative, the 2-year-old died on the spot while the 15-year-old succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital.

The tree was reportedly felled by strong winds, which also caused a widespread power black out and the destruction of property of an unknown value.

Residents have expressed concerns over the large number of aged trees in the area that pose a danger to them.

The complained that despite requesting the local authorities to cut the trees down, nothing has been done.

This comes barely a week after seven students from Murang’a County drowned at a beach in Ukunda following high waves that were caused by strong winds.
