Two city askaris sacked over bribery claims

Governor Mike Sonko’s government has fired two city askaris for allegedly soliciting bribes from hawkers in the Central Business District.

Their sacking comes barely three days after seven other Nairobi County askaris were charged with violently robbing hawkers in Nairobi during raids on Sunday, October 29 in two separate incidents.

The seven were released on a cash bail of Ksh 100,ooo each after denying the charges with the hearing of their cases set for November 29 and 3o this year.
