Two dead as boat capsizes in Migori

Two people drowned on Sunday morning after the boat they were in capsized while crossing River Kuja at Konyuna village, Uriri Sub County, Migori County.

The deceased; Michael Otieno Gor and Joseph Aloo, were on their way to Ndhiwa when the boat capsized at the middle of River Kuja. The captain survived the incident.

Mr. Charles Odhiambo Gor, a brother to the deceased Michael Otieno Gor who was to be on the ill-fated boat said the three who were on board including the captain were in the middle of the river when the boat capsized killing the two.

Mr. Odhiambo, who was waiting for the boat to pick him after the two had crossed the river says he watched helplessly as the two were being swept away by water.

He says the captain of the boat appeared to have sensed danger since when the waters hit the boat he jumped into the river and swum successfully.

Mr. Odhiambo says they were from a church meeting in Konyuna village when the incident occurred.

West Kawere Sub-location Chief Alex Odongo confirmed the incident saying a search for the two bodies is underway.
