Two die, five injured in grisly road crash

Two people died and five others were seriously injured in a road accident involving a lorry and a bus at Nakuru Teachers Training College  near Salgaa on Wednesday morning.

Confirming the incident, Rift valley traffic Commandant Joseph Muthee said the early morning accident occurred after the driver of the bus heading towards Kisumu from Nakuru lost control and hit a stationary lorry that had been parked by the side of the road.

The duo died on the spot while the injured were rushed to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.

This comes barely two days after the Transport Licensing Appeals Board Chairman John Mututho has lashed out at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for “sleeping on the job”.

Speaking in Nakuru, Mututho criticised the authority for focusing on the use of alco-blow and speed guns, which he says have not been of much help in curbing road carnage.

Salgaa is a notorious black spot and pressure has been put on the government through the Kenya National Highways Authority to construct a dual carriageway along the stretch of road from Kibunja to Salgaa trading centre.
