Two die in Isiolo, Migori cholera outbreak

Doctors in Isiolo County have confirmed an outbreak of cholera after the death of an 87-year-old woman at Checheles area.

Isiolo County Hospital Manager Muhammud Abdikadir said 11 other residents are being treated after they were infected with the disease.

In Migori County, one person has also died from cholera with several others admitted in different hospitals after an outbreak of the disease in Godjope Ward.

Our efforts to reach doctors at the Migori County hospitals on the matter were futile.

Last week four people died and 18 others were hospitalised after consuming contaminated meat and mutura at Gishagi area of Ngong, Kajiado County.

The 22 are reported to have consumed meat sold by the roadside, falling victim to what many suspect is yet another cholera outbreak.

Seventeen people were admitted at Ngong Hospital after eating the contaminated food, and another man was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The family of one of the deceased, a 20-year-old man, says he ate the chicken meat and mutura together with 7 other family members, including two children. Shortly after eating the contaminated food, they started experiencing stomachaches and diarrhea.

According to Ngong Deputy County Commissioner, Kahiro Mwangi, medics are still conducting a post-mortem on bodies of the deceased to establish whether it was cholera or food poisoning that led to their deaths.
