Two die in Rongai building collapse
Two people died on Sunday after a 6-storey building under construction collapsed in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.
Four other construction workers who were trapped inside the debris of the building were rescued by Red Cross officials after the building collapsed this morning.
According to Red Cross officials, one more person is trapped under the debris and efforts are underway to rescue him as the four rescued people were rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries during the incident.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the collapse.
This comes just months after another building under construction collapsed at Roysambu area off the Thika Super Highway, killing four and injuring scores.
In a more recent incident, a building in Kisumu collapsed in June this year, trapping 20 under the debris.
This has become a worrying trend in the country, despite the government’s effort to tame poor construction practices and crack the whip on unscrupulous contractors.
