Two die, scores injured in grisly accident

Two people have died and one sustained serious injuries injured in a grisly road accident along the Meru-Kaithe bypass in Imenti North Sub County,Meru County.

The accident occurred after a motorcycle the three were riding on burst its front tyre and lost control.

“There are serious sharp bends on the newly constructed road and we are calling on the government to erect bumps to reduce speeding motorcycles and vehicles as this is not the first accident,” a resident told Citizen Digital.

Confirming the incident, Meru County Base Commander Vincent Okoth asked boda boda operators to be careful and ensure they put on the safety gear while riding.

“Let us be careful especially as we approach this festive season to avert the loss of more lives. Don’t carry more than two people on a motorbike,” he advised.

The injured woman is receiving treatment at the Meru General Hospital.

This comes even as the country marks the international day for the remembrance of victims of road accidents.

During a function to mark the day at Uhuru Park, the chairman of the Matatu Welfare Association, Dickson Mbugua, pledged support for NTSA as it works to curb road carnage.

“We should not always blame the police for taking bribes but stand up as Kenyans and speak out on the faults on our roads,” he said.
