Property of unknown value was destroyed on Saturday morning after a fierce inferno burnt down two dormitories at Tengecha Girls High School in Bureti Sub-county, Kericho County.

Kapkatet location chief Daniel Kosgey confirmed the incident saying the cause of the inferno was yet to be established.

The chief said the two old dormitories, one called Kenya and the other one called Kilimanjaro hosting 30 and 50 students respectively caught fire when the students attending morning preps.

He said the girls’ personal effects were completely destroyed in the inferno and nothing could be salvaged.

The chief however said no casualties were reported during the incident.

Kosgey said members of the public with the assistance of the fire brigade from the county government assisted in putting out the inferno.

He revealed that investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the inferno.

The school’s Board of Management(BOM) is expected to meet to chart the way forward after the incident.

However, learning activities continued after the girls were addressed by their principal as investigations into the matter continued.
