Two Feared Dead, Scores Injured in Roysambu Building Collapse

The proposed residential apartment under construction near the Thika Road Mall collapsed on Thursday trapping an unknown number of people.

Confirming the incident, Kenya Police and National Disaster Operations Centre officials said National Youth Service (NYS), Kenya Red Cross, Nairobi Fire Brigade and Kasarani Police officers were at the scene leading rescue efforts.

Witnesses told Citizen TV that two people have been pulled to safety but at least ten are believed to be trapped in the rubble.

HURUMA COLLAPSE

In January this year, a woman was killed and dozens others injured when a building in the Huruma area of Nairobi collapsed .

A total of 36 people were pulled out of the collapsed building, with 24 being dispatched to the Kenyatta National Hospital where the woman died and the remaining 12 cleared at the scene.

Rescue operations continued well into Monday morning as others remained trapped in the building and communicated with their loved ones via mobile phones crying for help.
