Two fishermen dead as boat capsizes in Migori

Two fishermen have drowned after their boat capsized at Sumba Beach in Nyatike, Migori County Friday, April 14 night.

Nyatike OCPD Dishon Chebaka, who confirmed the tragedy, said bodies of the two deceased fishermen have already been retrieved and removed to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary.

A fisherman who survived the ordeal is in stable condition and says he swam to the shore after the tragedy that came as they were fishing before tides turned close to midnight overturning their boat.

Boat owner Tom Wenga said efforts to rescue the two deceased were futile Friday night, with the body of one retrieved soon after the accident and the other early Saturday morning after hours long search.

The police boss has appealed to fishermen in Nyatike to ensure they use protective gear and learn essential fishing techniques to avoid such fatal tragedies during their fishing expeditions.
