Two fishermen feared dead after boat capsizes in Lake Victoria

Two fishermen are feared dead after their boat capsized Monday night near Waka Waka beach in Mageta Island, Bondo sub county.

Kennedy Omolo Otieno, 25, and Elvis Otieno Ochieng, 26, were on a fishing expedition when the boat capsized.

According to Mageta chief, Ambrose Ogema, the fishermen were on their way to Waka Waka beach from the nearby Mahanga beach when the tragedy befell them.

He told Radio Ramogi that the fishermen tried to swim to safety but only two managed to reach the lake shore while the two others drowned.

“The fishermen around the lake did their best to rescue their drowning colleagues but their efforts proved futile,” said Ogema.

The administrator, who confirmed the incident, assured that the search for the two fishermen has already commenced.

This tragedy comes hardly two weeks after a similar boat incident killed nine members of a local Ohangla Band.
