Two women hacked to death in Migori, Murang’a

Police in Migori are pursing a man who allegedly hacked his wife to death on Wednesday night after they reportedly disagreed over family issues at Godkweru location in Suna West Sub County, Migori County.

The suspect, Mageyi Ouru, is reported to have attacked his wife using a panga before escaping.

Confirming the incident, Suna West sub county Deputy County Commissioner Yusuh Huka said the deceased, Dorothy Atieno, succumbed to the injuries on arrival to Migori Level 4 hospital on Wednesday night.

Huka said they are yet to establish what transpired before her demise, adding that the police are currently investigating the matter.

The DCC has expressed concern over increased cases of gender based violence in the region urging couples to use other alternative means to solve their family issues to avoid such death cases.

He said it’s unfortunate that many couples have died and other sustained permanent disabilities because of gender based violence on matters that can be solved easily through negotiations.

Several cases of gender based violence have been reported in Migori County for the past two months, a number that has also raised concern among the local leaders in the region.

Elsewhere, residents of Gatanga Constituency in Murang’a County were on Wednesday left in shock after a man stabbed his lover, Joyce Njoki, in the chest before escaping.

The victim’s aunt who did not reveal her name said the two have been fighting over domestic issues for a while.

“They have been fighting of late and he would  beat her up every now and then. I think the last fight went overboard and the man stabbed her,” she said.

Njoki’s aunt added that three days ago, the man had threatened to kill his lover.

Police are carrying out investigations to establish the root cause of the fight and arrest the perpetrator.
