Two injured as saloon car rams into bus in Juja

Two people were injured on Thursday night when a saloon car ran into a school bus along Thika Superhighway.

The accident, which took place about 500 meters from Juja, was allegedly caused by the saloon car as it attempted to overtake the bus. The saloon car crashed into the bus, causing it to fall into a ditch.

Passengers, who were aboard the bus, say they saw the saloon car unsuccessfully try to overtake the speeding bus.

The accident caused a traffic snarl up on the busy highway, but police officers from Juja Police Station cleared the jam up.

Those who sustained injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.

The school bus, which was ferrying 51 passengers from a graduation ceremony in Nairobi, was heading to Meru.

The saloon car was headed to Thika.

On Tuesday, gospel singer Eko Dydda was involved in a grisly accident after a lorry rammed into his car from behind, causing it to roll severally.

Despite having extensive damage on his car, the singer walked out unharmed.

In November, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that private cars are the number one cause of deaths on Kenyan roads. Commercial vehicles were second while public vehicles come third.

In September, NTSA reported that about 1,899 lives were lost through road accidents between January and August this year, with 60% of these being pedestrian and boda boda riders deaths.
